South Dakota - Day 1

Well....Thursday after work we hit the road for a long trip to Custer, South Dakota. Took us 11 hours to get there since we were pulling a trailer and were all SUPER tired since we drove all night! We arrived at the campground at 7AM...long enough to change our clothes and hop back in the cars to go to Mount Rushmore for the festivities. It was raining, foggy, gloomy, and stormy almost all day and night! We hiked the park, watched the festivities on the main stage and waited until the fireworks were due to light up the sky over the monument. What an amazing way to celebrate independence day! Festivities included a B-1 flyover provided by the AirForce, Vietnam Code Talkers recognition, The Blue Brass (AirForce band), Ceremonial flag folding by the AirForce, and a Native American Hoop Dancer. Unfortunately, before the fireworks started, the fog came back and didn't leave. They still had fireworks, but all it looked like was colored fog - HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! We got back to the campground around 1 AM - at this point I had been awake for 43 hours with only a 2 hour nap on the drive down!
